(Hmmm, snowqueen really putting the pressure on now, just when there’s little of interest in the cinema…)
Warning: Although billed as “a thoughtful picture of modern life, love and relationships with all their messy complications”, this is in fact a rom-com.
The messy complications referred to are rather a set of contrived relationships between the main characters that stretch the viewer’s credulity to breaking point.
The narrative is constructed around the progress of Sam, newly arrived in London from ‘up norf’ through a couple of minimum wage jobs in catering and PR, and the romantic relationship into which he stumbles in the course of his employment.
The sentimental, happy ending that Sam so richly does not deserve, merely set the seal on a disappointing evening’s viewing.
Best avoided.
